CEO Bartz of Yahoo fired

Carol Bartz

Carol Bartz was fired Tuesday as Yahoo Inc.’s CEO by the Yahoo’s board of directors.

The company says Bartz will be replaced by Chief Financial officer Timothy Morse on an interim basis.

Bartz, 63, had a rocky two and a half years at Yahoo since she was appointed CEO in January 2009. Recently Yahoo settled a dispute with a Chinese payment service called Alipay. It ended up diminishing Yahoo’s stake in the company.

Bartz implemented a take-no-prisoners image and was touted as someone with a reputation as a professional manager who could clean up the place.

While Bartz streamlined some areas and made strong management hires, her performance was choppy and mostly lackluster.

The company plans to search for a permanent replacement for Bartz.
