HP TouchPad tablet and smartphones discontinued

HP TouchPad tablet

Hewlett-Packard Co. is exiting the personal computing business it helped create.

The biggest seller of desktop and laptop computers said it’s going to ditch its smartphones and TouchPad tablet computers. HP is also considering spinning off its PC operations.

The plans amounted to moving away from the personal computer business and focusing in on writing corporate software.

HP began as a garage startup and helped establish Silicon Valley as a major technology center.

The company had hoped its TouchPad tablets would rival Apples iPad. But the tablet and corresponding smartphones, Palm Pri, Pixi and Veer have seen little interest by consumers.

  1. Ray says:

There was a huge sale of the TouchPad, and they sold out fast. Presumably because there wont be any updates to the OS since HP are getting out of the market.
